Sarajevo Airport sits about 8 kilometres from the Old Town - a 15-minute drive in light traffic. Taxis cost 14-20 KM (cash only), the Centrotrans airport bus costs around 5 KM and takes 30-35 minutes, and line 103 trolleybus is the cheapest option at 1.80 KM for those travelling light.
The airport is about 8 kilometers from the old town. On a good day that's 15 minutes. On a bad traffic day, maybe 25. Either way - you have a few options and they all work fine. Here's what they are.
Taxi - Fast, Easy, Cash Only
The taxi rank is right outside Terminal B, with a long line of silver cars - no booking needed. A ride to the old town runs roughly 14-20 KM (around €7-10) depending on traffic. Cash only, and have the address written down: most drivers speak limited English, and the easier you make it, the smoother the ride. The meter starts at 1.50 KM. I tell guests to ask for a receipt at drop-off; it sorts out any confusion if the price feels off. Twenty-four hours, no surprises.
Airport Bus - Cheapest Option
Centrotrans runs the airport bus straight into the old town, dropping you right by Baščaršija. That's a different stop from the main bus station you'd use if you're heading to Mostar later, so don't let the two names confuse you. Tickets are around 5 KM (about €2.50), journey time 30-35 minutes. Schedule's a few runs per day, not 24-hour - worth checking before you fly if you're arriving late. Honest take: if you're traveling light and not jet-lagged, this is the cheapest sane option, and it leaves you right in the heart of the old town. If you're arriving with three suitcases at midnight, take the taxi.
Trolleybus (For the Adventurous)
Line 103 trolleybus stops about 600 metres from the airport in Dobrinja, and from there you can transfer to a tram heading into the city centre. Total cost: 1.80 KM. Honestly though - only do this if you're traveling with a backpack and an hour to kill. Two transfers with luggage at the end of a flight is more punishment than saving. I've recommended it to exactly two guests in three years, and they had time to spare.
