The Short Answer

SoulHaus sits at Fra Grge Martica 4 in Sarajevo's Old Town, directly across from the Sacred Heart Cathedral (1889). Gallery 11/07/95 is one minute away, Maison Coco bakery is 30 seconds, Baščaršija five minutes, and Ferhadija Street three. Everything else in the Old Town is within ten minutes on foot.

SoulHaus is at Fra Grge Martica 4, in the very heart of Sarajevo's old town. Here's what you can reach in 5 minutes or less without planning anything.

Sacred Heart Cathedral - 30 Seconds

The Cathedral is literally across the street - the largest in Bosnia, built in 1889, neo-Gothic, impossible to miss the moment you step out of SoulHaus. The bells ring on the hour and after a few days you stop noticing them in a way that feels nice. Inside, on a clear morning, the light coming through the stained glass turns the whole nave gold. Worth the five minutes it takes to step in. Most guests do it on their last morning and tell me they wish they'd done it on the first.

Gallery 11/07/95 - 1 Minute

On the same square as us - a 1-minute walk. Gallery 11/07/95 is a photography and video exhibition documenting the 1995 Srebrenica genocide. I'll be honest with you: it's not an easy visit. Allow 45-60 minutes and don't pair it with anything else that day. The reason it sits a minute from our front door is also the reason this city is what it is, and most guests are glad they went, even when it hurts.

Maison Coco - 30 Seconds

Across the street, opens early, and we kind of can't believe our luck about it. A real French bakery in Sarajevo's old town: croissants laminated properly, almond pastries, a solid espresso. Most guests grab a coffee and pastry, take it outside, and watch the Cathedral catch the early light from the bench out front. That's the SoulHaus morning ritual, even though nobody officially decided it would be.

Baščaršija - 5 Minutes

Turn right out the door and walk five minutes - you're in Baščaršija, the Ottoman bazaar that has been the centre of Sarajevo since 1462. Copper workshops still hammering coffee sets, the Sebilj fountain with its pigeons, cafés that have been there longer than anyone can remember. The first time, just walk through with no plan. You don't have to buy anything. Listen to the sound of copper being shaped - once you've heard it, you don't forget it.

Ferhadija Street - 3 Minutes

Three minutes from us, the main pedestrian street that runs west out of Baščaršija. The reason to walk it isn't shopping - it's that there's a tile set into the pavement marking the exact line where Ottoman Sarajevo becomes Austro-Hungarian Sarajevo. One side: narrow alleys, copper, grilled meat. The other side: Viennese facades and wide boulevards. The transition happens in a single step. I have never gotten tired of pointing it out to guests.

Everything else in the old town is within 10 minutes. SoulHaus is not convenient to the old town - it is in the old town.
